“Becak” is one form of traditional transportation in Indonesia. In English, it is called cycle rickshaw. It powered by human pedaling. Becak usually contain three wheels, passenger seat and pedal. Becak or cycle rickshaw are widely used in major cities around the world, but most commonly in cities of South, Southeast and East Asia. 

Nowadays Becak slowly disappear because of modernization, particularly in big city. Becak is considered too slow (comparing to car or motorcycle) and become a disrupt for traffic. It shapes also considered old fashioned and didn’t match with modern lifestyle. Actually, becak is enviromental friendly transportation because it doesn’t produce any pollution. Becak is also doesn’t make any noisy to our ears. 

In cities like Solo and Yogyakarta, becak become one of it’s icon. Becak is preserved by local authorities and more likely to be a tourist attraction. In Malioboro, one famous place in Yogyakarta, becak can be seen almost in every corner. They become a local culture and unique feature of Yogyakarta. Becak is symbol of Javanese phrase “alon – alon asal kelakon” which means : it doesn’t matter if it’s slow, what matter is it’s done.
